This pack contains the essential items you need to make beautiful sourdough loaves.

  • Fresh sourdough starter (75g) – our unique starter (“Westfield”) contains the natural yeasts and bacteria needed to make sourdough bread. Following the instructions in this kit you can make up as much Westfield starter as you need. Westfield will happily live in your fridge when you are not baking.
  • “Baking Bread by Hand” by Eastcourt Manor – our 70 page book explaining everything you could possibly need to know about looking after your sourdough starter and making bread. Contains dozens of tips to improve your bread and recipes for white sourdough, wholemeal sourdough, basic white loaf, pizza dough, sourdough pancakes, currant and cinnamon loaf Orders including fresh sourdough starter are shipped by first class post on Monday to Thursday only to ensure the starter arrives in good condition.

This kit contains the main items you need to make beautiful sourdough loaves at home including a sourdough starter and full instructions. You will need scales, a bowl, a baking tray, bread flour, salt and water.

  • Fresh sourdough starter (75g)* – our unique starter (“Westfield”) contains the natural yeasts and bacteria needed to make sourdough bread. Following the instructions in this kit you can make up as much Westfield starter as you need. Westfield will happily live in your fridge when you are not baking.
  • Round banneton (1kg size) – our wood-pulp bannetons are specially imported from Germany. The banneton contributes to a perfect crunchy crusty with an open light interior. Wood-pulp is manufactured from European spruce and is more ecologically sound than traditional materials such as cane which is grown in Indonesian virgin forest. Wood-pulp is also significantly easier to use than traditional materials.
  • Plastic dough scraper – the essential tool for handling bread dough
  • “Baking Bread by Hand” by Eastcourt Manor – our 70 page book explaining everything you could possibly need to know about looking after your sourdough starter and making bread.   • Mixing bowl (4.5l) – a plastic mixing bowl that is big enough to mix up enough for 3 large loaves of bread, easy to clean and fits perfectly with the plastic dough scraper
  • Organic white bread flour by Shipton Mill (1kg) – produced from a blend of Canadian and English organic wheats. The Canadian prairies soil enables them to grow organic crops which are rich in protein. The high protein content gives the flour excellent baking qualities and provides a level of consistency which Master Bakers prize. The English wheat has an unparalleled flavour. This flour is very versatile and excellent for making sourdough bread.
  • Welsh sea salt (6g) – pure sea salt from the waters of Anglesey. The salt is rinsed to give a characteristic brilliant gem-like appearance and the correct balance of delicious minerals, with no hint of bitterness.
  • Metal baking tray (26cm x 26cm) – heavy duty, commercial weight baking tray with double-layer non-stick. Fridge, freezer & dishwasher safe and guaranteed against faulty workmanship or materials for 20 years (5 year non-stick).
  • Apron by Eastcourt Manor – heavyweight professional apron. 65% polyester, 35% cotton twill with crease resist finish.
  • Grignette (for slashing loaves) – perfect for making fast, clean slashes just your dough goes in the oven. Won’t drag and tear the dough like a kitchen knife. The curve allows for deep, angled cuts giving improved lift to the crust
